Bert the Turtle

It's interesting to me how easily and how often the Cold War era houses stories in science fiction. Not to say that it doesn't make sense what with the great leaps through science including and especially this new weapon of mass destruction the Atomic Bomb, the likes of which had previously only existed in a child's science fiction comic book and was usually mounted on an aliens flying saucer. But now the technology was in the hands of a normal human person. In many ways, to me, even more frightening than in the hands of an advanced alien race. And that is where sci fi peaks it little head into the real world. Suddenly little Billy's "Action Comics!" didn't seem so far off which promotes much room for a science fiction writer to theorize and imagine "what if?". And that's what I think makes a truly great science fiction story, if the ideas presented are within the realm of belief, if things happen that seem so possible it is frightening that work has the makings of a great sci fi tale.
